No. The disks are active for about 4-5 seconds while the system tries 
importing the pool, then it spits this series of kernel messages, and then the 
disk stays, and remains, idle as long as the systems stays powered on.

If booting from a live USB, after getting these same messages, only the disk 
subsystem seems to be "plain dead", but the rest of the system seems to be 
functionning alright - and can be shut down in the normal way.
