Even that's debatable. Don't underestimate the benefits of lz4 compression
and other corners you may be able to cut elsewhere with ZFS (e.g. on MySQL
innodb_doublewrite=0, innodb_checksum_algorithm=none)

IMO, mirrors are still useful. I still use mirror vdevs with ZFS in cloud
deployments.
