Davik Horn told me years ago that people did it on Ubuntu/Debian. Due to technical issues (HFS+ as the rootfs was hardcoded into XNU), the first Mac OS X rootfs on a public version of ZFS was HFS+ on a zvol. I am not sure if the situation there has changed.
