[zfs-discuss] Replacing disks best practices

Hi list,
I have a (naive?) question: what is the preferred plan to replace a bad
disk?

Suppose I have a pool with "autoreplace=on": can I simply remove the
affected disk, wait 30 seconds, and insert the new one? Or should I
preventively put the disk in offline status with "zpool offline ..." ?

From my tests, the disk is successfully replace by using either method.
But does a precise recommendation exists?
Thanks.
